Lauren is a cinematographer focused on experimental and narrative filmmaking. Her personal work explores themes of labor and alienation often depicting vacant spaces and figures in states of motion or rest. She loves using dreamy textured lighting and gritty color palettes to encourage viewers to lower the intensity of their gaze. Even more ideally- to go find a place to lay on the ground beneath the sky and let the mind wander.

Originally from a small suburban town in Missouri, she is the oldest of two sisters and daughter of a single mother who immigrated from Korea and American father.

Lauren received an associate’s degree at her local community college then went on to study painting and visual art at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. While at university she developed an interest in filmmaking and the performing arts, especially dance and circus acrobatics. She has performed as an ensemble aerialist in three student circus shows. She continues to shoot films, direct stills shoots and does freelance work in the commercial film industry.
